My 3 girls started laying 3 weeks ago. To start off with, they all laid in the morning, but now one of them lays in the afternoon. They free range in the afternoon, and she goes back to the coop to do it. I wondered if she was being bullied, as she is the smallest and most placid, the one my sons carts around. Or is she just getting used to the darker days? I am new to this, so don't know.

Also, sometimes her eggs are speckled, and the other 2 not. They are all hybrids.

No,  typically an egg takes just over 24hrs to travell down the reproductive tract so they should lay about an hour later each day so they will, over almost a month or so, be back at the same time again.  I doesn't quite work as simply as that but that's the theory anyway.

My white star always lays in the afternoon...... i think it takes her all day to summon up the courage to actually lay the egg......

They are only single yolkers but weigh in at an average of 85g!!

If it gets too late for laying she holds on till the next day..... but this is a rare occurance

Out of my 3 black hens one lays a pale blue egg, one lays a pale green egg and one lays a pale green egg that usually has some speckles sometimes more, sometimes less.
