make sure the soil is very very firm before planting and firm them in with your heel.

You may want to put a cane in next to your PSB if it's very windy where you are planting them as they grow quite tall

The hispi should give you hearts in late Autumn. The Purple Sprouters will not crop until next April.

I netted mine and kept them covered all the time but we get pigeons and rabbits as well as everything else so we have to cover everything. The rabbits are even digging the onions up  :nowink:

I didn't want to say that I thought it was a little on the late side for PSB, mine go in about May for harvest next spring, but I suppose you'll just be a little later!

Regarding netting, we have a major pigeon problem. If brassicas are not netted, they get stripped no matter at what stage of growth they are.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

from seed.  From now until spring would be what, about 30 weeks and you have plants?  I think they'll be fine - might not be a big crop, but most stuff overwintered want to throw a flower head up come spring.  Last year I grew Romanesque - I was a bit late sowing, then the cabbage white caterpillars got in the cage and stripped the leaves off  so not surprisingly, I didn't get a crop.  I left the plants to overwinter and in spring got some beautiful broccoli  ;)

I agree - but only about 10 of these will be growing weather.
