we got a very large spinach we now eating,when its had its days do we leave it in the ground ready for the next time or have we got to rip it out totaly.

Rip it out if it is true spinach and not beat leaf.

last year, I was clearing some spinache that had bolted. I sliced the plants off at ground level with a spade and left the roots in. 2 weeks later, they had sprouted new leaves and I got a second (small) harvest off them  :D
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

if you make a few sowing over the summer then you will get a longer season to harvest also it depends on the variety and if it is true spinach or spinach beet, i have had it last well into the winter months.
