spinach
« on: February 23, 2013, 11:14 »
Not grown it before and was wondering what does it grow will with, I mean which section of a plot is best eg brassica etc
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

It sometimes gets its own section on our plot, but I also sow seed along the edges of beds with other crops, for picking at the baby leaf stage. :)

I sow mine in the space left when I take out broad beans, later in the year.

Does for me  :D

Not particularly, no bigger than a foot really. Do you have a seed packet which will tell you?

I found spinach liable to bolting - pay attention to how much sun it gets (if any, should 2012 be anything to go by).

only in as much as it will last for at least a year so put it somewhere you won't be disturbing until NEXT (2014) spring as you can be harvesting leaves through the winter

There are many varieties of spinach, and some are much bigger than others, and there are various sowing times, so do take time to study the packet instructions to make sure you are sowing at the optimum time

I sow them where this are gaps, or make sure I have enough space if sowing a big one such as Bordeux, which can grow tall  :D

I like Rico d'Asti and I think I've had more success with this one than most
