Chickens, Neighbors And The Law.
« on: June 15, 2007, 15:26 »
Hi guys sorry I haven't been around in a while, well i've been reading up on posts but had no questions until now. I would love to get some hens for fresh eggs in the mornings etc' and to look after but am unsure on the legal side. At present I live in a quiet cul-de-sac on a council estate and was wondering if i'd be permitted by law to get hens. I don't want and cockerals that will crow in the early hours I just want some girls. Do hens make much noise? Is it against the law to have hens in places like where I live?

Your advice is much appreciated, thanks.

 :)

Hens do make a noise but not a great deal you get the odd bocbocBOC usually just after they have laid, the odd squawk etc and clucs but not overly noisy.

You will need to check with housing, if your a tenant to see what they would say. They tend to have regulations regarding pets.

As long as you keep them clean and tidy you probably won't get any moans from neighbours esp with the odd 1/2 doz egg freebies.
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Are you a council tenant ?  If so have you looked at your tenancy agreement  :?: Go to your library and find out if there are any bylaws against it.  The librarian can point you in the right direction.
