ideally they need seperate houses as ducks dont perch, ducks also need water so you would need to provide something for them to use. How big is your run and how many ducks and hens was you thinking of? Ducks are eating pooing machines so it would get very messy very quickly.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Agree with Joy with the added point that however you keep a duck, you need to keep it with at least one other duck. They are flock animals and need the company of their own kind.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

As Joy and Kate mentioned you need at least two of each to keep company. A separate coop is needed but they are happy in the same run (I keep chickens and ducks together). A hard paddling pool is great for the ducks in the run and also a wheat bowl (washing up bowl filled with water and each day fresh wheat in the bottom) this allows the ducks to have more grain, but stops the chickens filling up on it and causing problems for them such as soft shells. The ducks happily eat the same layers pellets as the chickens and will join in eating greens etc.

What a brilliant tip Cara I have not heard of that before (mind you I have never kept both together it's either been one or the other - and I unlike the rest of you ducky people prefer chickens ).
