it depends on what you want them for - loads of eggs or less eggs but for over a longer period. Large fowl and ducks or bantams?

The Khaki Campbell and Indian runner breeds were always looked upon as  the best for egg production,

an egg laying breed in chickens would be something like a goldline or warren. But these would only lay well for a couple of years and the majority do die quite young, however for a longer laying period but still very good (5 eggs a week ish in the first couple of years) is a blackrock or even a speckledy  . My blackrock is now 6 and still giving me a couple of eggs a week
