Could anyone advise me on growing ginger,

A work mate asked me if you could grow ginger indoors or outdoors in this country,
I scaned the net and got boged down in differrent views.

Has anyone growen ginger and what where there results like.

growing it this year in my new polytunnel plant a fresh shop bought tuber and grow inside then just mind it... i cant be that difficult.. or could it..?

I tried this a couple of summers ago in the greenhouse.

The plant grew a lot of leaves and I thought WOO HOO...........but unfortunately I didn't really end up with any more tuber than I started with.
It was more like a system for keeping ginger fresh instead of it shrivelling up at the bottom of the fridge

I grew some last year and they came out well. i bought from shop but only small cloves when i dug up they were at least 8 times bigger and far more juicy and tender. A friend of mine just breakes his big cloves down and plants succesfully also..
