MOTH BALLS!
« on: February 15, 2010, 20:43 »
I have been told that using moth balls can prevent white fly (a small moth) from smothering my brassicas.
It seems to make sense but also i was told  they are also good for keeping away bugs ,cats and mice.
They are cheap to buy from ebay, but i was wondering if anybody else had tried them?

Please don't use moth balls Molusc, because they are toxic to cats.  :( :( :(

They would also not be effective in keeping away white fly from brassicas.

There are different types of mothballs, but if you 'Google' 'Mothballs', you'll find lots of reasons for NOT using them.
I was considering the use of them myself, but after reading the info available on the net (and there's lots of it) it really doesn't seem like a sensible solution to a pest problem.

Also if you use mothballs as a deterent and any harm come to an animal because of your actions you are then legally responsible and can be prosecuted.

I wanted to share a dangerous joke. When we went to visit my parents  they had a menthos stickered big jar (brand name of a mint) full of moth balls.
Thankfully I found it first and our 4 year old didnt.

Balls for moths should definitely be kept in their right place (in the Past….in my opinion – Not even sure I’d want them in a wardrobe!  :tongue2:)…

Long ago, when I was little, I arrived home from school on a hot summer’s day to find a bottle of White’s Lemonade on the kitchen table. Usually I would never help myself without asking but on this occasion I did........….

One swing later I discovered my dad had decanted some bleach into a glass lemonade bottle…. (He was a caretaker at the time).

I spat the bleach into the sink and rinsed my mouth thoroughly… then waited for my dad to arrive home.  >:(

It was interesting:- I’m not sure who was the more “told off” him or me. Him for leaving the bottle unmarked and accessible or me,  (an 11 year old who helped himself without asking). It didn’t happen again – we both learnt from the incident.  :(

SO:
Morale of the story is – take care with common everyday substances, use them for their intended purposes, never leave them where people or pets might suffer from your misguided intentions.

No moth balls - such great toys for cats to play with and carry in their mouths - until you have to explain to the owners why you left them layng around... :(  :(  :(
Never keep your wish-bone where your back-bone ought to be.

xx
