garlic cloves in water
« on: January 10, 2010, 12:59 »
i have just grated some 2 garlic cloves { small ones ] an put that in there water but should i add it to thier feed instead , i have added some to one of my girls who i have shut away in the quantine house with a very deep bed of straw as shes starting to get bubbly eyes an seems to be quivering { dosent make sense but from her tail end only } .i cant feel any egg inside her but she is getting new feathers like there is no tomorw and her scales are coming away from the legs so i guessing shes going though a full on moult .
could the moult be making her miserably ?

Pop the garlic in the water, grated or crushed. The girl moulting is under a degree of stress so may have caught an infection if her eyes are bubbly, I suspect her immune system is struggling a bit. If she is quivering she may be cold and struggling to keep her body temp up, maybe better to pop another hen in there too. I know there is a risk of infection but she will be happier with some company. Alternaltively you can bring the hen inside and keep in a dog cage or something similar. Hope that helps!

I put a teaspoon of garlic powder in their 8 ltr water container everytime I fill it.
Generally all round good healthy thing, but also, will reduce smell of poop.  Honestly, I've tried them with and without at the height of summer, and it really makes a difference.
Have been told that some hens don't like the taste, so keep an eye that all are still drinking.

I've got the animal garlic powder. It's loaded with vitamins and minerals and I don't use it too often because they already get supplements in the poultry spice. You can give them too much!!!
You can buy dried powdered garlic and I use this in their mash along with acv and a bit of olive oil. Great salad dressing, eh?
