Noisy Ducks
« on: September 15, 2009, 20:07 »
Hi,

My Welsh Harlequin ducks are now about 12 weeks old.
Over the last week or so they have developed what I can only describe as the loudest quack I have ever heard.
It mainly happens when they see my 20 month old son or if they can hear us but not see us.
I was wondering if this is a maturing stage or if this is what I should expect from now on as they have been quacking for ages but nothing like this!
just a little worried as to what my neighbours will make of it if it continues although they do have scotty dogs that bark all day.

Also is there any toys or props I can give them may keep them busy during the day?
Night is no issue they go to bed at 6.30-7 and get up after 7.30-8

Thanks

Mine can be a bit noisy, especially when being let out in the morning. They generally just chatter away to each other they rest of the time unless they think I am being slow with the odd treat!
Things that seem to keep them occupied are things like their pond or digging for worms and grubs in loose soil. Is all of their run on solid ground, I can't remember?
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Hi Kate

Most of their run is mad up of slabs although there is quite alot of shallow gravel and a sunken dip pond.

They might like a cpoule of low planters or pots with soil in to fossic about it. Mine love them but the plants never seem to last that long!
