they cluck a lot when they have layed an egg, otherwise they make lots of different noises as they grow up, just wait and listen

in my experience they start rosey when they approach point of lay. So could be 4-5 months. I've got 3 months olds & they are still cheaping.

mine were rosey at 14-15 weeks . nothing prepares you for the noise they make when they lay an egg . Its exactly like the noise i hear if i press the button next to the eggs at my local asda . not sure if everyones store is the same but i used to press it loads when i was a kid and to be honest still do now but only to ammuse the kids you understand  :D

i used to do it to amuse myself.
no shame in that!

our newbies started rosey around the same time they started laying.

I have never seen the button, must look out for it next time I am there!

One of my hens makes a noise that I call miaowing like a cat!  Bless her, and she is laying now too!

Hi

on the same line when do cocks start crowing?  is it before or after they are ready for the table?  Just wondering as am hoping to get some chickens at some point and to raise for eggs and table.

As soon as they crow and your neighbours start to complain then theyre ready for the table  Think it might be about 16 weeks ish but never having had cockerels until now (and theyre only young yet) so maybe someone will correct me.

I had a wyandotte who started crowing at about 8 weeks old but most of my others have been a few months old and approaching maturity... tis so funny when the start crowing - they look really suprised as if they can't believe they made that noise... and their first crows can be really croaky   :)
