Depends on your budget as a starter.

The egloo is a possibility.

Or a home made one from framing and shiplap.

Or a ready made one.

Run needs to be at least 1 sq metre per bird.

The ark obviously needs to be sized to suit the number/size of the chooks.

My OH is going to build a run on a veg bed which is 2.2m x 1m. I was hoping to have three Bantams as they are smaller. Do you think it would be better to have two instead? They won't be able to free range all the time because I have a rescue racing greyhound and whippet.

Well thats decided an Ark for my allotment

Like that bantam,naturesparadise....anyone know the breed :?:
and is it a good layer,

As I said I only have permission for a movable arc on the allotment,so will keep to a few smaller bantam's,luckily enough mine is a corner plot and well away from any houses so thinking of a cockerel as well, any thoughts :?:

That's a real shame isn't it.

Pity you can't have something of quality and value without a guarantee of it being stolen or vandalised.

Back to the pallets and polythene !  :?

I'd still have the 3 if they are bantams, then if you should lose one (heaven forbid, but it does happen) then you won't be left with a single chicken!  Can you make the run a little bit bigger?

Thanks for that I was thinking along the same lines. I can't really make the run bigger easily as its a raised bed I will speak to my OH as there is another bed near maybe he could join them together. They will be allowed in the garden but just not with the dogs so it would be restricted.

Could you fence of any grass ?
You'll never have to mow again. In fact you'll never see grass after a week.

Yes I would like to put them on the lawn but my OH won't let me. I really want to get an eglu for the lawn but he doesn't want to put it on the grass :(  So its the veg bed or none at all.
