Have I forgotton how to boil an egg?
« on: May 02, 2009, 18:09 »
For some reason I cannot shell my boiled eggs anymore. When I shell them the white tends to come off in layers with it! They never used to do that? I boil them by placing them into a pan of cold tap water, bring it to the boil and simmer for 5 mins. Just as I have done for the last 20 years! This is from free range from various farm brand from super markets so it's not just a wierd batch of eggs.

They are just very fresh eggs :)

For easy peel eggs you need to leave them for a week at room temp before cooking.

I can't wait that long and so I chop my hard boiled eggs in half lengthways with a sherp knife and scoop the egg out of the shells with a teaspoon.  "Werks fer me" ;)

Ahh that would make sense as it started happening when we started to make sure we bought the locally produced eggs, be it from local chicken keepers or the local farms ones at the supermarkets. Thanks Auntie :)

The only downside to fresh eggs!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

just goes to show how old shop bought eggs are!!!!  If you have them as dippy eggs with soldiers they can be as fresh as you can get them no peeling required. Free range home grown eggs beats any others any time.
Staffies are softer than you think.
