planted runner beans out
« on: May 02, 2009, 00:30 »
heck i took the plunge and put my polestar stingless variety out
all 21 of them bursting with life in pots from my coldframe.
i live in watford and may get caught out by a late frost.
i have planted some more today in case
i have three wigwams and if need be i will wrap a double layer of fleece around
and place a warm hurrican lamp in the base of each for the night and see what happens.
they have survived quite a few nippy nights in the cold frame.
weather forecast mild and changeable, just that possible late frost between the 11th and thirteenth of may up to the full moon .

ha i never thought i would be talking about beans at 12 .30 in the morning

I totally echo your thoughts there, George  :)

My Enorma & Painted Lady went in the ground on 19th - way too early I know, but I was so impatient and they were too - taller than their coldframe.

Like you, protection at the ready and another generation to replace them if they're doomed.
Still loads of time for them.

As for full moons, it's been too cloudy here to see the last several, and in North Devon too, so fingers crossed for that - this month I please don't want to see it nor do my beans
