Things Are Beggining to Happen!
« on: April 09, 2009, 09:48 »
Complete novice at this . No proper greenhouse , no airing cupboard and only 1 window sill so anything that said on the packet that it could be sown direct into the ground has been!

Carrots , Mooli radishes and Parsnips sown a fortnight ago under cloches are poking through... the mooli are doing exceptionally well .

French Breakfast radish that I sowed last Saturday (no cloche) are already putting in an appearance.

No sign of any peas or beans yet (wasn't very confident about them anyway ... got loads of seed left to try later)

In my little greenhouse (green thing tied to the fence!) the sweetcorn has germinated as have the few beans I put in a seed tray. No movement on courgettes , toms and chillis as yet.

My garlic , onions and shallots that I planted over winter are looking fantastic and I swear that if you look at the rhubarb plant long enough , you will be able to see it growing!

Happy Days .... best thing I ever did was get my lotty!  :D

Keep smilin'
Sal
The sun is always shining .... somewhere!

Well done, SalB,
It is exciting watching your garden grow, isn't it?  I still get a thrill every time something appears.
Cannot imagine eating radish for breakfast though - the French are a strange lot.   ;)

yeah i noticed my potatoe shoots coming through soil the other day.
i felt realy pleased with my self.

whilst i'm here do i cover the shoots straight away as they peek out of the soil or do i let them form the leafs first then keep earthing up the stalks.
im growing three rooster seeds sown in about 12 inc's of compost in a 80 ltr compost bag.
i posted this question here ( http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=33943.0) but only got the 1 answer of strangerachel, thank you by the way.
so i've just covered them over with just a few inches of soil just incase.
any more advise would be welcomed.
plz post in my thread as not to hijack this thread.

thank you

"Mooli radishes "

Are they a bit early?  I believe tend to bolt if subjected to cold weather, and thus mid-Summer sowing is suggested.  Sow some more later on just to be safe, perhaps?
