can anyone remember how many chickens they recommend to keep in 50m of electric fencing. I have read it somewhere and I just cant remember how many.

any ideas guys

Hi Em,

I would have said 15 to 20 would be fine. Handy if you move the fence every now and then to give acess to fresh grass.
This is a handy site and gives slightly diferent advice.

Thanks foxy I knew I had read it somewhere and that site looks  familiar,

Have asked OH for another one for my birthday so that will then give us 100m but I'm not having 50 birds.

depends how much area you make by arranging your 50M perimeter. Along narrow rectangle will reduce area, wider rectangles or squares are better but a circle will enclose considerably more area for your 50M. eg

rectangle 4X21 = 84sqM

square 12.5X12.5 = 156.25sqM

circle radius 8M = nearly 200sqM

Having said that your birds will be healthier and the ground will stay in better condition if the stocking level is very low.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
