Afternoon everyone.
In a fit of radishy enthusiasm I planted a whole load of winter radishes back in September. The munchen bier have done incredibly well with great big fat roots. Trouble is, they aren't very nice and I was under the impression that the bit you actually eat is the seed pod. They aren't showing any sign of producing a stem, let alone pods. Will they come up with the goods if I leave them until Spring, or should I just learn to love the roots?

Never grown them myself but having a little browse around both root and pod are to be eaten. Judging by a couple of radish I let go to seed this year you could be in for a long wait for the pods.

Ah well, I'll just have to wait a while and hope I have nice juicy, well filled pods in the spring.

The root is very large but rather strong tasting, a little more feisty than either of us really likes.

my understanding (somewhat supported by a quick look at Dr Hessayon ) is that roots of winter radishes aren't typically eaten raw (Dr H says cook or pickle) but the ones i planted this year all failed to grow, so this is theory rather than practice.

I planted some of these in August - as the normal radishes I sow are typically miniscule, some of these were approaching the size of a normal radish and were very tasty.
