2 still not laying and 26 weeks now
« on: September 14, 2008, 20:10 »
i have 3 warrens one has laid since we got them at 20 weeks, one looks very imature and the third has been behaving a little odd for the past week. she has gone beetroot red in the face comb and wattle reddening but not very big, eats for england crouches when i stroke her and is very vocal when you go in the run. another thing she has been doing is looking underneath herself a heck of a lot - they are all healthy de-mited wormed and live free range in chucky heaven do you think that any of the above are indications of imminent laying can't think that i am doing anything wrong but surely they should be laying by now HELP ............. thanks in advance

Would have thought so chickadee....but it may be the weather or just her adjustment to ladyhood. She also maybe thinking about going into moult too.....perhaps it's a little too much for her to get her little head around! :)

What you feeding her on Chickadee, I've a poultry book by Katie Thear and she suggests getting reluctant layers to lay by feeding only layers mash/pellets and nothing else . Must admit when ever I have new POL in they get nothing but layers until they all start laying. Bit hard some may think but mine are there to lay  :)

I would if they where mine, or you could give the greens in the afternoon to make sure they have eaten their mash.

Probably won't be long then, mine seem to go in and out like the pre verbal blue bottomed fly just before they start laying

well she certainly sounds ready and mature enough, dont think she will moult this autumn as in her first year -wouldn't be uncommon now the days ar shortening for her to miss laying now until around Feb next year.
