the other night as we were going to our plot my o.h and myself notice this moving thing by someones beautiful broadbean patch.  and guess what there were two squirels surounded by b.b.pods half torn open and  they  were munching away.. So we chased them off only to walk up the lane a bit and saw them doing the same thing there.  outside of making prison walls around them what can you do besides plant a row just for them.  Funny thing is a man up the lane from us thought some plotter was stealing his beans .  I can now inform him who the real thief is.

.22 caliber rifle works well? :D

I have never known of any successful way of deterring squirrels, from anything...wonder if you can get a sonic alarm for them?

Just looked it up and you can. CLICK HERE

I know its an American site that do not ship over to the UK, but we must have something similar.

Only sure solution is to grow the beans in wired cages. I think chicken wire would do, stretched from secure corner posts and over the top. Be sure to bury about 6" into the ground all around as squirrels don't mind digging to get what they want.

I really can't believe blooming grey squirrels - they disassemble my WIRE peanut holders and yesterday even took down and got into a supposed squirrel proof feeder. I hate the little b*****s. There were 4 of them sitting on our pergola the other day
If they set about my veg patch/broad beans etc then i'll set my teenage son (and air rifle on them)
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

after many months of visitations and me trying to disuade them, they started to try getting in my bird boxes that did it a .22  air rifle and four squirels dispatched. felt bad about the first one but got over it.

I saw one in North Devon about 18 months back (he was black, dunno about his nationality) - nobody believed me!
