Hi Hermon, they may be okay, but won't be ready in time for Christmas!  I've got 7 pots with a potato in the small greenhouse which I've lined with bubblewrap, but only 2 are showing above the soil and they've been in the pots since late Sept/early Oct.  And I've got one potato in a big pot in the polytunnel which has canes round it and fleece over in case it gets really cold, but that one is growing really well.  I have fingers crossed it may give me a meal at Christmas.  I've got carrots in a big plastic box next to the potatoes too and they are doing well so far too!!

So go for it, if they don't work, you can always use the compost for something else, so you haven't lost anything have you??

This something I am trying this year with some new tats, they are going mad, I have them in an old kitchen bin about three foot high and they are nearly to the top. they might just make it for crimbo but I am not holding my breath.

It's tricky growing them in the greenhouse - too hot and you have a load of haulm but no tubers.  Still, just because something is tricky, is no reason not to try.
Best to buy some seed potatoes prepared for late planting.

I had more haulm than tubers off what I planted in the polytunnel this spring compared to what was planted outside, but they were much better condition, didn't have any scab on them but the outside ones did,

As to the ones in the greenhouse, last year, okay, we only had enough for 2 meals, but the potatoes were supermarket ones and the compost was from the hanging baskets, so not a lot, but they were FREE!!!!!!!

I have just taken this image of mine in the bin, Dec 3rd, you can see how I insulate it, the fleece go's over at night to keep them snug, one more earthing up to go.
