yesturday at the plot me and hubby where getting our veg for our sunday roast when he yelped for joy when i looked at what he'd got he was holding a normal looking parsnip  if you've read my post from about 3 weeks ago you will know why i was thrilled (i've been digging up stubby twisted "parsnips") i realise all those where from the tray in the greenhouse that i'd left for too long and when i planted them out the roots didn't unwind - hence useless parsnips! In one season i've learnt a valuable lesson  the ones that look normal were the ones i planted straight out in the plot

hermon when you say you left them too long how long would that be then ?

lets just say when i finally got round to planting them out it was almost impossible to seperate each plant, the roots would have made a nice knitted blanket! they must have been about 2 inches high and about 50 or so plants in a single tray, i didn't think they would come up so i put half a packet in the tray..you know how many seeds of parnsnips they give you!!

Just to show you never finish learning, I gently explained to a newbie on our site how you couldn't start parsnips off like that (in a tray) and needed to plant directly.
He got a great crop.
