Overwintering cuttings
« on: December 12, 2015, 08:06 »
Hello. I have several pots of Hydrangea, Callicarpa and Lavender cuttings which I took back in September. They appear to have rooted - or at least they appear to still be alive. Shall I keep them outside in their pots overwinter, or is it best to line them out in the ground? The winter can often be very wet here. Thanks.

If you only took the cuttings in September, the root systems will still be developing, so I would avoid distubing them.

Can you find a sheltered spot to put the pots ?  Next to a wall is often drier than out on the open and can protect from excess winter wet.

If they are still going strong next spring, you should have a pot full of roots and shrubs ready to be planted out  :)

Thanks. Will leave them be and put them somewhere a bit sheltered.
