I have lilies in large terracotta pots.  Do I leave them in the pots for overwintering and put them in the garage or unheated greenhouse.  Or, do I emply them out of the pots and store them dry?  I have read to put each separately in paper bags and hang upside down in a frost free, dry place.  Any thoughts on this please?

Also I believe that if I break off healthy pieces of the bulb I can produce more lily bulbs - how is this done?

I just put my pots right up against the house wall in a sheltered spot and they made it through last cold winter

When the bulbs get big they get little bulbs at the side. You just break these off and replant them in a seperate pot. They take a while to get to flowering size though.

Some lillies make their bulbils where the leaves join the stems, i think you can do the same thing with them, although i've never tried it

I leave the bulbs in their pots and put the pots together in a sheltered spot, the ones in the beds remain in situ
