never put onion bits on a compost.
Why is that?
In case you import onion white rot

Is that likely (from a Supermarket Onion, for example)?  Just curious - I had assumed that if an onion had White Rot it would not be suitable for sale?

As with most crops, commercial growers have an astonishing array of pesticides at their disposal  ::), although even they can only control white rot sufficiently to minimise crop lossess. That does seem to imply that some of their crops do get infected, and even assuming affected bulbs are removed at some stage of drying, grading and storage, the spores may well have attached themselves to healthy onions by then.

As one of the most infectious and persistent crop diseases it doesn't seem worth the risk of adding waste from bought onions to domestic compost heaps, as we amateurs only have an enviromesh shield and a bendy plastic sword to defend our crops with!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Haven't you had onions which develop rot on the bottoms, if you haven't used them right away?

I know I have

It appears to be endemic on farms, according to Defra
Quote
Loss of the best onion growing soils due to white rot infestation has forced onion production into areas with less suitable conditions for growing high quality onions

£3.50 per 7kg tub in Wilko.

So -21kg for £10.50 with £3.50 delivery charge or order and collect free from the store ( I've checked this bar the actual paying bit and it does only add £3.50 for the delivery)
They arrived today, but not Wilko's own brand..............it's actually New Horizon organic  :D
