I bought a Rhubarb plant this year and planted it in a large tin dolly tub that I lined with manure. It's absolutely enormous but I read somewhere not to harvest it the first year though I'm not sure why?

Do I leave it be until next year or do I need to clip it back at some point please?

Not harvesting in the first year ensures that all the energy goes into getting the plant established.

There is no need to cut it back, it will die back naturally in late autumn.

you've just got to resist temptation to pull just a couple stalks.

I was told to leave it 2 years if possible for best results and pick on the 3rd.mine going through their 2nd year and the difference in growth/stalks from the first year is huge!.roll on next season!lol
