morning all,,,about 5 weeks age i moved 2 crowns to a new part of plot,stripped the growth off first,is has now grown large an thick,, is this normal,,should i just let it die back now  thanx

Do you mean it's growing a thick stem with what looks like a big bud on the end? If so, it's a flower stalk. Cut if off quick before it sucks the life out of the crown.

Leave the rest of the leaves on to die back naturally.
