We have a lidded bucket hanging on a hook from some washing line attached to the roof in our run with 3 chicken nipples in the bottom. The water never gets muddy or full of straw/ myscanthus/ poo like the old one, so much easier to clean. We change the water regularly and clean the bucket with half a Milton tablet every so often. We also have a couple of old lemonade bottles that have a nipple fitted in the cap and these go in a cable tie on the mesh and can be alternated and kept fresh. It's good to have plenty of fresh water available esp. in the summer. We use old lemonade bottles for loads of things - covering seedings (like an individual greenhouse), cut into rings and put over plants to stop slugs. Love the fly catcher on a previous post......will try that next summer.  :D
