Anyone Tried this Type of Waterer?
« on: July 26, 2012, 15:10 »
I saw on the internet a type of waterer that uses a plastic fizzy drink bottle attached to the outside of the mesh run, which feeds into a dish type thing inside the run - anyone used this type or have any information about them?

I need to buy a new waterer, and was wondering about these, as it seems quite space saving.

By the sound of it it is the same as the watering device used for mice and other pets, if it works for them it should work for chooks.

Cheers,     Tony.

You will need to use something else during winter and probably need to replace the bottle often as it would be difficult to clean. How easy would it be to attach to your run.

I use a rabbit waterer for my quail but use a dish of water when the weather is frosty. Quail in their third summer so must work for them. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

Its bigger than a rabbit one - its like a cap that goes onto a normal fizzy drinks bottle, and the cap has like a dish thing that the water goes into. I might give it a bash.

I use one of these in the dog cage when I'm trying to break a broody hen. It clips on with a strap and is fit for purpose although in common with most plastic waterers it does tend to freeze in winter so I under fill it to prevent cracking.

Mine ignored it and I hadn't the heart to prevent them access to another source.
