Re: watering I did put in a large white pipe to water the squashes with but it is now lost under the triffids and I found the 6m soaker hoses in my local 99p shop they are a bargain I've got one in my spuds too
:) :) That's great :(Unfortunately we are not allowed to use hoses at out allotments

I'm glad I spotted this, I've put a plywood divider between my pumpkins and yu mai tsai (wot?) but they just climb over!
I like the train them in circles idea and might try it. Last year I grew shark's fin melons, they really need a firm hand and a sharp knife!

Anyone tried training a goji berry? 8)

Off topic but my goji has really gone for it this year with four foot runners trying to root in leeks and cabbages!

Gojis generally have a spread of about 10 ft (3+M) so that's normal. But you can prune them a bit to maintain the width and height you want.

You can stop the squash rambling once you have enough fruits set.  You pinch out the growing tip

Don't handle the squashes roughly. If you break the stems it's all over, which would be a tragedy when you've got fruits on

Not to mention they fight back too, the prickles on my pumpkins are evil

Actually i should have mentioned i am only rough with the stems without fruits, the others get moved but with a bit more care , not huge amounts but a bit

in this weather mine are running rampant and every night I am having to re-stake them

As above, just stake them at the end to have them growing in the direction you want.

Have just been out and followed up fairy plotmothers tip about the squash and milk bottles. I raided the recycling boxes which were handily put out today.  Next year I will be trying the beetroot queen's tip  about the florists buckets as I have plenty of them at home already.

I wish I had read this before I went into my veg garden . . I just pinched out the ends . . . Including my pumpkins. I must say though they have made their way through my sweetcorn. . . And although my French beans and borotti beans where meant to be growing up my monty frame some have changed direction and have started to climb the sweetcorn!!! 3 sisters . .   totally my accident! :D
