Red Baron advice
« on: February 21, 2013, 22:39 »
Hi guys. I've got some red Baron pinion sets to set away soon. But I've been told red onions are rebound for going to seer easily. As this is only my second year or growing onions, this being my first with red. I'm looking for any advice or tips?
And if a onion bolts or goes to seed, is the onion no good anymore? Does it impair the flavour?
Thanks guys.

It's a very nice onion.  I haven't found it any more likely to bolt than other sets.  If it does, pinch off the stalk.  It doesn't change the flavour in my opinion.  It's better to eat those before the others especially if you plan to store them.  They are also nice eaten young at anytime through summer.  Enjoy  :D. I'm trying them from seed this year - it's not too late to be trying some onions from seed if you fancy trying other varieties too.

Thanks for the advice. I've just bought a bag from pound land. For a quid you can't go wrong. :)

To tell you the truth I'm not sure I've noticed any difference apart from a lighter wallet with the dearer ones.

Heat treated to minimise bolting?
Perhaps that's it with the dearer ones but much depends upon the weather as always.
