Broody Again Already?
« on: March 20, 2012, 17:05 »
My Speckeldy, who I got in the early summer as POL went broody early December. She has been back laying faithfully, but not regained her position as No. 3 chicken, she has sunk to the bottom rung!

This morning when I was tidying them up, I noticed quite a few of her feathers in the house and nest box. Today she has been in and out of the house, and when I went out just now to get todays eggs in, she was firmly rooted to the nest box. I shoo'd her off, and took out the 4 eggs (so she has laid today), she went and had a drink, and has shot back up there again.

Can she go broody again that quick>???????

Oh she was a proper pain last time, but at least it was cold and dark! The other girls arent going to be happy! My two ISA's browns havent gone broody at all, and got them last Mothers Day, and my Sussex who I got at the same time as the Speckeldy is not interested either. Are some chickens just more prone than others?

My 2 wyandotte bantams are both broody and sitting on quail eggs.  Don't think they are fertile as have only just put the male in with them.  So I have ordered some Light Sussex Bantam eggs which should arrive in a couple of days.  Then I can swap the eggs while they are having a feed/drink break.  ;)
