Old bath tubs - what can I use them for?
« on: October 31, 2011, 08:21 »
I'm very new to gardening, having been fortunate enough to have been offered the use of 5 veg beds and a polytunnel up at my friend's stables, which of course also has the added bonus of having plenty of well rotted manure on site!

There are also 2 disused old bath tubs and I was just wondering what they would have been used for and if I could put them to good use for anything. Any ideas?

A wild life pond, but if you don't put it in a hole you'll need to make sure the wild life can get in & out.

good for growing carrots - 2/3 filled with used compost/soil mix then with enviromesh or similar over the top. Have seen one of these on our site and the carrots looked in great condition

Blueberries (ericaceous compost needed).
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Fennel, they like it wet and it stops them bolting quite so soon.     Cheers   Tony.

Water storage, if you can seal them.

I believe, fill it with water and then dump any weeds in there you wouldn't put on the compost heap. (i.e. all of them:-)
Wait until you get a foul brew developing nicely and use as a liquid fertiliser
