If they are summer-fruiting raspberries you are supposed to cut out the canes which have fruited and leave the ones which grew this year to bear the fruit next year.

If they are autumn-fruiting you cut all the canes down nearly to the ground at some point over winter because the new canes grow and fruit all in the same year.

If you just trim the canes as you have done you will still get something next year but it's a good idea to know which type you've got and prune them accordingly.  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

they was summer canes

If you know which ones have fruited this year then cut them down to the ground (you should be able to see the remains of the old fruit cores on the canes, which will also look older and browner than the new ones.)

If in doubt, leave them as they are - as I said that's not ideal but you won't do any real or permanent harm to them.

Well, that's one way of doing it - a better way would be to tie the new canes to horizontal wires to support them, although you can give them a little trim if necessary.
