I have found one slightly blighted tomato plant in the GH today.  It was a Beefeater tomato.  There was one fairly nasty looking tomato complete with a leatherjacket larvae attached (blurgh!).  There were a couple of brown marked stems, I picked the couple of decent tomatoes left on the plant and cut off the foliage - bagging it up for the tip trip.

I then removed the leaves from the first two trusses on each plant, cut out the growing tips and Bordeauxed the lot.  I hate spraying, but have about 2 kilos of tomatoes left and will be sick if I lose them.  I will pop up everyday just to check on them if I can this week.

Well, I just went out to see my tomatoes plants in my back yard, and there you are, there are three plants with the first signs of blight. I guess I should count myself kind of lucky - last year I didn't manage to get any tomatoes before the blight struck, this year I did get a few salads out of the plants - but I'm still gutted.
My question is: these plants were fairly close to each other, planted in beds. I have four other plants, further away, in pots, that don't have yet any sign of blight. Does it make sense for me to spray them now, or all is lost anyway? And if I spray them, do I have to wait a minimum amount of time before eating the tomatoes that might ripen? Or would it make sense to move them further, like the front of the house, and not spray them?
I have cut all the trusses with small tomatoes today, since I doubt they'll manage to ripen now...

I would spray the ones that aren't showing any signs of blight, as I did yesterday unless you want to take a chance with them.  It depends how many green tomatoes they are carrying as to whether you think it is worth it.

Thanks. One more question: do you just spray stems and leaves, or do you need to spray the tomatoes too?

Had blighted leaves on one plant in the giant cloche on Saturday, so took them off. By Sunday lots of leaves were affected to took out the whole plant (plus 2.5kg of green fruit) and sprayed all the other plants, in the cloche, the minitunnel and outside.

Hope that's given them a reprieve - after last year I am determined to harvest what looks like a good crop to come  :D

Oldcow, I would suggest you try to hang onto the plants, as fruit will still ripen. The spores are in the air, so spraying rather than just moving is what I would do.

I spray the leaves on both side where possible and the stems,. Some goes on the fruit so I take off any that are ripe/about to ripen beforehand - hope that helps

Thank you all for the advice, I'm off to spray - wish me luck, I'd like to try at least one of the Albenga and the Ailsa Craig tomatoes I'm growing for the first time...  :(

If they are not alraedy blighted, you stand a good chance of postponing this until you get some fruits

We are still crossing our fingers for the GH toms, and each morning, they get a good looking over to remove anything that looks slightly brown!

So far, it's been two small toms with the blight, and several branches of leaves, but they seem to be hanging in there!

Down on the plot though, they're beginning to succumb one after the other, and I dare say that's really that for this year!

Very much the same here
The aubergines look even worse and they now stand permanently outside, away the greenhouse

It has been a terrible year all round for toms, they not only didn't amount to much - but then get a dose of the blight >:(
My GH ones are (fingers crossed) so far unaffected, I think that is the way I'm going to go in future and put them all under cover!!!

It just feels wrong in the greenhouse every morning. It's dripping with humidity, which in other circumstances could be a good thing, and the last few days have seen off a cucumber plant near the door in the gorgeous sunshine, because it just couldn't cope!

I've got some Black Krim growing there - thanks to DD, and I'm determined to get some ripening, even if I have to get a blasted torch and shine that on them all night as well...;0)

Funnily enough, the dear old Moneymakers are romping away, so perhaps they have got a bit fed up with being told they're tasteless; any tomato is better than a blighted one!
