I think you can use it fresh. just really depends what it's mixed with. I have loads of it rotting away on the plot but there's a lot of sawdust in it so it will need a while.
Have you a herd of guineas then ?? I get mine from a friend who has 20 or so

When I had guinea pigs (about 25 at  the most) we had the best lawn ever  :D  I used to give them a turn about in the movable run on the lawn.  The lawn was lovely and green :D

If it's guinea pig bedding/manure, my experience is that it will contain uneaten dried guinea pig food that will attract mice/rats if composted in an open area.

We kept guinea pigs for years and used shredded paper and hay as bedding because they were always getting poked in the eye by straw.

The stuff from their bed box didn't have seed etc in it and made excellent addition to the compost bin

How did you manage to stop them taking food into their bedroom?

They did drag carrots and greens in, but didn't carry dried food like oats etc about as it is a bit small really!!!

I know this is an old post but I just wanted to say I have just found a breeder/shower of guinea pigs who can supply me with a dustbin load of guinea pig poo every week throughout the year - my horse manure collecting days are over! She has about 100 guinea pigs! No sawdust either - just hay bedding and newspaper shreddings.

I get her lawn mowings as well - a dumpy bag's worth every fortnight.

Hopefully this will be a real help but you might want to try adding some to general purpose compost and see what grows. You may find it contains seeds left over from uneaten food which will germinate when you spread it around. If you compost it in a hot compost heap this might kill some off but it would be as well testing before you cover your plot with it.

Thanks for that. The feed is flat rolled and heat treated so I don't expect much to grow from it. If it does I'll weed it out and compost it anyway, but thanks for the advice.
