Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, had a quick look and couldn't find anything. I've taken in a Columbian Blacktail POL 'cos she kept escaping onto a main road. I've got her quarantined and I'm not sure that she may have early stage scaly leg - her leg scales just look different to the rest of my girls. Can anyone tell me what the early symptoms are? Even though I have 350 hens I've never had scaly leg and I don't faccy treating them all if this one has got it! Is there a prophylactic treatment I can get in while she is isolated from the others?

I thought the same thing with one of my hens in the summer - she had very slightly raised scales just at the bottom of her leg.
I rubbed vaseline onto her legs (which immediately got covered in dust and soil so she looked like she'd got pop socks on). Checked her after a few days and they looked fine.
I'm not sure if it was anything but it certainly didn't do her any harm.
Really hope you don't get an outbreak with 350 chx, I'd be inclined to isolate your suspect hen if poss.
I'm not even sure how contagious scaly leg mite is - hopefully someone else will advise.

I would treat with Ivermectin and dose the legs with either benzobenzoate (sp) or a specific scaly  mite killer
