Scaly leg mite
« on: January 08, 2012, 17:38 »
Looks like one of my Buff Orps has it. Just raised scales, no blood or discharge and no obvious discharge. I have smothered Vaseline over her legs, she loved it. I also put it on the other 3 even though no sign as I presumed it wouldn't hurt.
Posts I have searched on here aren't recent so just thought I would ask if there is a new wonder spray that would be more effective, if not I will continue the Vaseline for a week, but what would be the best thing to wash her feet in next weekend

hello Gracie,my chooks had a problem with scaly legs,I tried the vaseline for a couple of months but no joy,i then tried Johnsons scaly leg cream which has camphor in it applied to freshly washed legs on a regular basis and it seems to have worked.
They were really horrible looking to start and now appear clear but will still use it as a preventative measure.

Hope you get it sorted ;)
When I was young we used to go 'skinny dipping,' now I just 'chunky dunk.'

The oil looks quite an easy method, has anyone actually tried it. Kitty is that something you get online or will it be in usual chicken supply shops

I bought the johnsons from the Pets At Home store. It seemed to have an almost instant soothing affect on the legs, poor Treacles legs were really bad and she had been pecking at them. There was a definite difference in a short space of time.

I may get this tomorrow, especially as Honeys don't really seem to bad, this could nip it in the bud quickly
