Radish gone to seed
« on: September 06, 2010, 17:05 »
Hi all
I was clearing out an over grown part of the garden that got left this year and found that the radishes planted there in early spring ( completely forgot I had done it) have gone to seed. Some are green and others have turned to a straw brown. You can guess my question by now :tongue2: Can I harvest these seeds, not sure what type they were.
Many thanks
Rugbyman

I'm not sure about saving the seeds - but I saw on BBC's "The Edible Garden" that you can eat the seed pods (the green ones - not sure about the brown ones!).  I purposely left some of my radishes for this reason and tried the pods.  They were quite strange because they looked like short green beans, but tasted - well - like radishes!

Radish seeds are soo cheap I wouldn't bother saving them. Sow various new varieties every season for a refreshing change.

I didn't deseed the pods - just ate them straight off the plant.  They're very spicey and evidently make a nice snack with beer!

I agree with Fisherman - radish seeds are so cheap I wouldn't bother trying to save seed.  If you eat the pod you get two fruits for the price of one!
