i have 10 16 week old silkie sussex cross chickens and i need to sex them,,i have a pure breed sussex cockerel(who is not the dad as i brought them in).

some of them look like chickens but some of them look suspicously like my cockerel,,when i bought them i was told that they all were females.

can someone please tell me if there is a certain way of telling the sex of these 16 week old chickens,,

thanks

Photos of their heads might help, although silkies are notoriously difficult to sex. One of my silkie crosses was originally called Danny - longer tail feathers, pointed neck feathers and a completely different stance and look about him. Danny then lost the long tail feathers and started laying eggs so became Dannii and has now hatched two lots of eggs for me  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

hello there, i had the same problem with a silkie, and also with downloading a pic that i was told was too large.  i had a couple of helpful suggestions on here about how to download, one being to use photobucket. I still couldn't do it! Perhaps you'll have better luck with photobucket than me. I emailed a picture to the breeder i had got her from.  She was either 18 or 20 weeks when i'd got her (i'd got a few different hens at the time and couldn't rem who was how old!) but i'd had her a couple of months before she showed signs of being a cockerel.  Her wattle had started getting larger, tho her crown still looked like a female.  It surprised my breeder to say the least.  Perhaps if you can't get your photo onto here it would be an option to email the breeder? I hope you do manage to get pics on here i would love to see what a silkie-sussex cross looks like. all the best. j.u.

Save your photo from the camera as you would normally. Click on it to open it then click on the icon at the bottom of the photo that opens it for editing. At the top of the screen click on "image" and where it says skew/stretch reduce the size from 100% to about 35% then save it, when you save it rename it so you don't confuse it with the original. Then when you do a post on the forum click on the "additions" and "browse" until you find your new photo. it will appear small on the page until someone clicks on it then it will enlarge. Hope this helps.
