« on: May 30, 2010, 10:04 »
Hi,  Has anyone sown corgette seeds direct in the ground before ?  and if so have you had success

I have only ever started them off in pots and then trasplanted but this year the seeds I sowed in pots don't really seem to have grown very well so I thought I'd try the seeds staright in the gournd

Hi Rebecca,
I have sown my courgettes straight into the ground and 3 out of the five have grown really well so far.
As long as you don't sow them too early you should be okay, this is the first time I have sown direct into ground and I think 3 out of 5 is good. :)l
if you want to be happy for a short time, get drunk; happy for a long time, fall in love; happy for ever, take up gardening

In theory starting courgettes off indoors in pots should give them a big advantage because you can control the temperature, watering and of course protection from pest damage much more easily.

You haven't said exactly what is wrong with your pot-grown plants but if you don't think they are strong enough to plant out then you might as well "go direct" but take precautions, especially against slugs and snails!  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

For some reason my pot grown ones stopped and died after germinating.  Think the compost was rubbish and I maybe over watered.  Ive got some more going indoors and will try and give them more tlc this time.
