Incubator Hire
« on: April 05, 2010, 11:25 »
I have seen on e-bay that some people will hire incubator space out for about £2.50 per egg. You supply the eggs and they incubate them and you then collect the day old chicks.

Has anyone ever used this method please? and if so how did you find the experiance?

I don't have room to hatch lots, but would love the kids to experiance this.

I have one girl who has gone broody so I have ordered some eggs (off fleabay) just to try her with, but if that fails - I noticed the incubator hire thing and thought it sounded ok. The one advertised was no where near me though, so would have to see if anyone does that round her, but wanted your thoughts on it first.

Toni

Thanks for that meterman! Know Clayton well - I use to live in Knutton.

I was going to try Light Sussex or Silver Laced Wyndotte LF types - not sure if one is better than the other (sucess rate wise etc)

I did a search for local poultry auctions and I only came up with one at Leek every other Saturday I think it was.

Didn't even know there was one at Penkridge  ::)

I hire out my incies  :D But you are MILES away from me. Somebody near you MUST have an incie they are not using, and will be willing to let you use for 3 weeks. Offer a huge cash deposit (the cost of replacing it if you break it - but check it is working before you hand it over) then, when u return it, check its working to the persons satisfaction, and get your deposit back. There is a lot of trust on both sides, so choose carefully!

I lend it to schools, and have hired out to people who wanted to "try before you buy", as it is quite an investment to then decide hatching is not for you, or you dont like that particular kind of incubator.

So far Liz (the broody girl) seems to be sitting tight. We have left one egg under her until the brought ones arrive just to keep her happy.....so fingers crossed!

please remember that on this forum no money must exchange hands - no buying, selling or hiring. The cost of postage may be re-embursed but no more. Thanks  :)

Deffo, I lent mine to Lisa, twice, and she has hatched me some chickies in exchange for the use of it....then she caught the hatching bug and bought one too, LOL  There must be someone near you that does the same thing?
