A cou cou maran is a hybrid! :D
Hi Foxy,
Is this correct? I thought they where called 'Cuckoo Marans' and are a pure breed  ???
But there is so many new hybrids springing up, that look just like the pure breeds.  ::)

A "cuckoo" maran is a pure bred maran, and a "cou cou" maran is a maran hybrid.. :)

Really?

A hybrid of what?

Just, in France a Coucou Marans is a Cuckoo Marans (simply because coucou is French for cuckoo!)

But they seem to be "bringing out" more and more hybrids every month lol

In the UK the "cuckoo" feathered maran is just that, in addition they have designed a marans based hybrid which is called a cou cou maran. :) Somewhat confusing! :D

I can't understand this Hybrid thing, as Marans and especially Leghorns are very good layers anyway   ??? I mean, how can you improve a White Leghorn?
