Stuck the top of one in a pot, and it seems to have got off to a good start (about 7 - 8 inches high now).  What do I do next.  Not hoping for fruit  but just for the fun of it.

Yeah, I tried it years and years ago and it did quite well, though I think we gave it away in the end.

Tried again with the kids a couple of months back and it just shrivelled and died...

Just borrowed The Lawn Expert from the library, bit of reading this afternoon, clear the garden tomorrow, dig over, prepare and level the ground and then I shall be chuckin my seed around.
