Duck Quack
« on: July 27, 2009, 23:09 »
My welsh harlequin ducks are now nearly 6 weeks old and one of them has had a quack for over a week now but the other one is still just peeping is this a sign that they are of a different sex or just that one is developing slower than the other?

:)  I have muscovey ducks, the male was the only one which quacked, the females all peep, eat, lay eggs, sleep, swim, a bit like my wife really,  :D :tongue2:

cheers, sam

hello Sam, wondering where you are based, my goegraphy is not that good... ??? :D
I think muscovys are quiet compared to other "mallard" based ducks where the girls tend to start a honky quack at around 6 weeks, the boys go from peeping to a whispery quack which is more noticeable a week or so later, well thats what I have found with runners :)

Does anyone know of a website where you can hear a sound recording of a mail and female duck?

Here you go Darrena

http://www.majesticwaterfowl.org/artquacks.htm

All my girls quack earlier than the boys who as Foxy said keep making baby noises for quite a while :)

So do you recon that if only one duck of the two has a quack at 6 week and has been quacking for 10 - 14 day that the other is a drake then, or there still a good chance that it could be a duck
