Is there any chance you could candle on or two? To get an idea :)

Trouble with ducks sitting their own eggs is you can never be quite sure as to when the development of the embryo starts. Duck eggs can take up 48 hours from when mum starts sitting them before they start to grow.

As Kate & Foxy rightly said last week Muscovies can take up to 34 days, but your start date isn't necessarily the date they started to grow if you get me ???

Best bet would be to get one out as gently as possible and candle it, may give you an idea as to what is happening :)

Other thing is listen to the mum's if they can hear babies/feel the eggs move they will talk to them :D

Sarah :)

You're going to need to have a look as Sarah says. If they are duds you need to take them away and get her off the nest (or give her some babies to look after).
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Hi All

Thanks for the fast reply's, I have now candled the eggs one there is something inside the other I see nothing.

The one with something inside there is about a 3mm gap all the way round the out side.

How long do I leave her sit on the one with something in?

Do I remove the one with nothing in and just leave her with the one?

Thanks All

I'm a little unsure about the gap you mention, is it within the egg?
How big was the aircell? How much of the egg was it taking up?

Can you describe what the one with nothing in was like? Was it black/yellow/orangey ?
The same for the one with something in?

Were there any obvious veins leading up towards the middle of the shell ?

Might help us give you a better idea as to when they/it should hatch :)

Sarah :D

Hi Sarah,

The one with nothing in looked just like a normal egg and was a orange colour under light.

The one with something in was all full up except the maybe 3mm gap all around the inside of the shell.

This is the first time I have ever looked inside an egg before so not really sure what im looking for.

The ducks seem to have stopped sitting on the one with nothing in, they have just burried it in there nest.

Thanks Shelley  :)

The one with nothing in does need to go then.

The other one, was there one end where the gap looked bigger?

an example is this goose egg :

That is only about 2 weeks into incubation but the bottom end (where the torch is ) is the air cell was that visible or was it all taken up by the dark shape? was the dark shape moving?

Sarah
