Can any one tell me if it is ok to eat fertilised duck eggs?
Ive just found out my two khaki campbell ducks are male, much to the delight of my two female white campbell, who are "in love"
am not sure what the best thing to do is, as apart from my love of all things duck, just want eggies to eat. would it be better to find new home for my lovely men
thanks

You can eat the fertilised eggs and won't be able to tell the difference (except if you allow them to incubate and that would be a bit grim - apparently an asian delicacy  ).  You obviously won't get eggs from the boys but think of the ducklings
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I have a cockerel and four hens - We eat the eggs all the time (although my friend has just hatched four of them under his broody, does that make me a grannie?)

I was told by an eggie farmer friend that eggies last longer if they are fertilized. For that reason only they have cockerels

If I borrowed one or your Khaki Campbell drakes with my Dark Campbell ducks we would have sex linked ducklings. No help at all to all your questions but

Hi, new to this website, but I can tell you that I have pekin ducks, and yes, the fertile eggs can be used as well as unfertilized eggs. They're VERY good, too! :D

Thanx for the warm welcome. I hail from Indiana, about 75 miles north of Indianapolis. Great information on this site, it has helped me alot. One of my ducks has been producing unshelled eggs, so I read that it could be due to a virus or because she has just started laying, so I'll wait and see.

Very exotic !  :)

Well, compared to Boston (UK) anyway.  :?

I don't know much about the technicalities of duck keeping. Kate or Vember are my sources for information. We only had a brief affair with some ducklings and now they are liberated (partially) into the outisde world.

Hope to see you around the forums. Can you post photos of your pekins in the chicken chat forum ?

You know, I would, but like I said, I am new to this website, and not sure how to navigate around here. If you could treat me like a 2 year old (human!) and tell me how to post pix of my ducks, I would gladly show them to you.

First of all, have a read of this ...  http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=19476

...see if you can follow it, and if not, come back and ask questions. Probably best to start a new thread on the Chicken Chat forum so we can concentrate on confusing you    :)
