Spud holes
« on: July 27, 2009, 23:12 »
Hello all

just lately have been diging up a few spuds with small holes in them, obviously something been boring into them, any idea what it could be? and will they be safe to store or is what bored into them likely to still be there and cause havoc amongst the stored ones.

Keep the faith.

Rictic.

If they are small holes it could well be wireworm - they wont store well, though you could eat them asap and cut out the area around the holes

Keep them away from the stored OK ones - it wont spread any wireworm, but any slowly rotting ones will rot others in time

Have a look at this thread Rictic..............does any of this sound like the problem you are having too?

Don't no if my problem is the same as yours but i over manured between rows which encourage ordinary soil worms, on digging the first earlys up i could see them burying in to my spuds.
