Sowing Red Onion Seed.

 Hi All,
       I grew some red onions, Red Florence (Rossa Lunga di Firenze) this year, from seed and good they are. Looking at the back of the packet it says that they can also be sown mid-August, transplanted out when they are the size of a pencil and harvested April/June.
 
 I was wondering if anyone had tried this and was it successful.   

If you are looking for something to do in October BQ, I have found some Leek seeds that can be planted outside in October," Blue de Solaise" OK so they wont get that big, the French call them Leek Baguette but it might be worth a try.
