started laying
« on: July 20, 2009, 18:11 »
we got our 4 girls a few weeks ago but were unsure of there age,one already had a full red coombe(leghorn ???) i think the lady said, 2 hybreds 1 of which has grown her red coombe since we had her (and the only one that drops to bellie for us), and 1 we cant remember breed of(very pritty shine black, gold flecks around kneck).
we got our first egg tue last week, nothing on wed but thur, fri, sat, sun, mon an egg a day, which have got bigger day by day, but which one is doing it.
i first thought it would be the leghorn as had full coombe but now think it is the young hybred who drops to her bellie for us,
how can i find out. p.s girls names are pinky, perky(wifes and mine) rose and olivia :)

I mentioned leghorns to Aggy on here, and she said her leghorns laid a bit later, so its probably your hybrid.  Is it a Black rock?  our black rock is black with goldy reddy flecks and the reason she squats for you is that she is ready for laying and thinks you are the cockerel!!!

Hello! What colour are the eggs you are getting? leghorns lay white eggies and the other hybrid you describe sounds just like my blackrock! she will lay brown eggs!  :D I would say it was the 1 that drops to its belly with red comb unless its white eggs and i think your leghorn may never drop to its belly as i have heard they are more flighty!
